On Wiradjuri Country in the Central Tablelands of NSW, the vibrant regional centre of Bathurst is rich with history and gold rush heritage – Australia’s oldest inland colonial settlement. Bathurst and its surrounds offer lush landscapes and entry to a unique world of contrasts. Beautiful heritage listed buildings are home to character filled bars, contemporary restaurants and modern accommodation. Gorgeous old pubs showcase up and coming musicians and artists; and old-world parks and greenspaces host markets, arts, and live music events. Bathurst is also home to international motorsport racing events.
About The Role
As the Manager Museums and Gallery, you will drive strategic leadership and operational oversight for Bathurst Regional Council’s network of cultural institutions and their distinct programs, incorporating the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery (BRAG), National Motor Racing Museum, Bathurst Rail Museum, Australian Fossil and Mineral Museum, Chifley Home and Education Centre and the Central Tablelands Collections Facility.
You will also play a crucial role in being the driving force behind the next phase in the growth and development of these important assets of the Bathurst region. Working closely with other section managers within the Department, including the sections of Events, Tourism, Library Services, Community Services and the Entertainment Centre, will present both challenges and the chance to set the strategic direction of the museums and gallery for the coming decades.
About You
This is truly a one-of-a-kind role.
You will be a seasoned and adaptable professional with a true passion for the management of museums, galleries and cultural hubs. To be successful, you will have a broad hands-on background in delivering high quality public exhibitions and programs and the overall financial and commercial management of such businesses and programs, as well as obtaining grant funding.
It is further expected that you will be a values based and inclusive leader, with a commitment to building high performing teams.
As expected of such a role, you will possess relevant tertiary qualifications in museum studies, visual arts, cultural heritage, arts administration or a related field.
