The University of Sydney is seeking an exceptional senior leader to join the Infrastructure portfolio as Chief University Infrastructure Officer (CUIO) . This is a rare opportunity to shape the future of one of Australia’s leading universities by driving visionary property, planning, heritage and infrastructure strategies that enable teaching, research and student communities to thrive.

About the Role
Reporting to the Vice-President (Operations), the CUIO has overall accountability within the professional services operations portfolio for master planning, development, design, planning and sustainability of infrastructure, overseeing all project management of major capital works & construction projects, managing the student accommodation portfolio, and managing an extensive land holding. The CUIO is ultimately responsible for ensuring the University’s infrastructure is sustainable, strategically aligned and positioned to support the University’s vision.

The role is responsible for shaping and optimising the University’s land, property and infrastructure portfolio by:
  • driving strategies that maximise asset value
  • delivering major capital projects
  • ensuring stakeholder needs are met within a sustainable campus development framework
  • providing leadership in policy development and strategic advice to senior executives
  • representing the University in high-level negotiations and planning processes
  • communicating a clear infrastructure vision to internal and external stakeholders.
The role leads risk, safety, quality, financial and people management across the portfolio to ensure effective, accountable operations, and undertakes institution-wide strategic projects or other duties as directed by the Vice-Chancellor or Vice-President (Operations).
The position also oversees student accommodation strategy and ensures the delivery of high-quality infrastructure services, while contributing to University governance through active participation in senior committees and leadership forums.

About You
The successful candidate will hold relevant postgraduate qualifications (or equivalent experience) and bring extensive senior leadership experience in infrastructure, property or development management within large, complex organisations.
Applicants must have:
  • a strong record of delivering major property development and capital works programs
  • demonstrated financial leadership in managing substantial budgets
  • exceptional communication, negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
The role requires a confident organisational representative and an inspiring leader capable of developing and guiding high-performing teams.
