Shape the Voice of One of Australia’s Fastest‑Growing Communities

As the proud recipient of the prestigious AR Bluett Award, Camden Council is leading the way as the fastest‑growing Local Government Area in Australia. Located in Sydney’s south‑west, just 60km from the CBD, the Camden LGA is experiencing unprecedented growth, with the population forecast to more than double—from our current population of 141,133 to over 233,000 by 2036.

This is a rare opportunity to help shape the future of a thriving, ambitious and growing community.

The Role
Manager, Advocacy & Strategic Communication
Reporting directly to the Director, Sport, Community & Activation, this is a pivotal senior leadership role within Council. You will lead, inspire and strategically guide the Advocacy & Strategic Communications Branch, encompassing:
  • Advocacy & Strategic Partnerships
  • Media & Strategic Communications
  • Grants & Research
  • Office of the Mayor & Executive
As a trusted senior advisor, you will provide strategic direction and expert advice across advocacy, public policy, grant management, media and strategic communications. You will lead the development and delivery of integrated strategies that advance Council priorities, elevate Camden’s profile and secure funding and meaningful outcomes for the community and organisation.

This role plays a central part in building strong partnerships, attracting investment and grant funding, managing complex issues, and providing high‑level executive, communications and political support in a dynamic, fast passed and often sensitive environment.

About You
You are an innovative, forward‑thinking leader with a proven track record in advocacy, media, public relations and communications. You bring strong strategic and policy insight, creativity, and hands‑on leadership experience, supported by a well‑established network of contacts and the ability to navigate complexity, build trusted relationships and influence at the highest levels.

While experience in local government is not essential, an understanding of the sector and confidence working in politically sensitive environments will be highly regarded.

You will also demonstrate:
  • Exceptional written, verbal and analytical skills;
  • Strong issues management and stakeholder engagement capability;
  • Strong political acumen and judgment;
  • A collaborative leadership style with a passion for developing high‑performing teams; and
  • The ability to build trusted relationships across government, industry and the community.
Most importantly, you are passionate about advocacy, public relations, people and delivering best‑in‑class outcomes for a growing community. Relevant tertiary qualifications are expected.

Why Camden?
Camden Council is in a period of generational growth. As Manager, Advocacy & Strategic Communication, you will play a defining role in shaping the narrative, influence and legacy of one of Australia’s most exciting regions.
