Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP) is a cemeteries and crematoria operator with crucial responsibilities under the Cemetery & Crematoria Act and other legislation. As the cemeteries and crematoria operator for the NSW Government., MMP oversee 400 hectares of Crown Land and the management of 8 Memorial Parks across Sydney and the Hunter region. These parks serve as places of reflection, offering support for people to grieve, celebrate life and remember their loved ones MMP’s services include sustainable and affordable interment options, crematoria, memorialisation, chapels, functions, historic, and recreational facilities.
The Role
The ‘Head of Infrastructure and Asset Operations’ is responsible for the operational leadership of capital works delivery, infrastructure optimisation, asset management, monumental services, and permits functions. The role ensures the safe, compliant, and efficient implementation and management of physical assets across MMP’s portfolio of memorial parks.
As the senior leader overseeing the delivery within the built environment lifecycle, this role will ensure long-term asset performance, continuous service delivery, and alignment to MMP’s regulatory, cultural, and community expectations.
This position reports into the ‘Executive Director Strategic Planning, Infrastructure & Assets’, and will lead 28 staff via 4 direct reports (Senior Facilities Manager, Senior Manager Capital Works/Projects, Manager Permits and Manager Monumental).
The total annual CAPEX budget is around $10mn per year, spanning a variety of project types including heritage building refurbishments, civil works (road and pathway upgrades), new building developments, through to managing niche projects such as the design, supply and install of new cremator units.
Key Deliverables
- Implement the WHS Contractor Management system
- Lead the production of an MMP Draft Strategic Asset Management Plan
- Lead the improvement of our Capital Programs maturity (capital project lifecycle, systems, process, people, governance and reporting), starting with conducting a maturity assessment
- Deliver capital projects in accordance with the Capital Budget
- Deliver asset maintenance activities and conduct an internal review of major contracts including waste, security and services

About You(Criteria)
We are looking for an experienced leader who will operationalise the strategies set by the Executive Director - SPIA. To be considered, you will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Project Management, Construction Management, or related discipline.
- Significant leadership experience in delivering and managing capital works programs, facilities operations, and/or asset transitions across complex multi-site environments.
- Proven experience in operationalising infrastructure strategy, including commissioning, transition, and readiness processes.
- Experience leading continuous improvement and change
- Demonstrated success in driving and implementing business/operational improvement initiatives.
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-risk, compliance-bound portfolios with technical and contractor workforces.
- Strong stakeholder management and engagement capability, including interface with planning functions, community stakeholders, and government regulators.
- High-level skills in leading senior direct reports and cross-functional technical teams.
- A strong alignment to delivering projects for a greater purpose.
- Desirable - experience in public infrastructure, cemeteries, or culturally sensitive environments.
- Desirable - familiarity with heritage and environmental planning compliance.
