The Organisation – Cessnock City Council
Cessnock City Council is situated within the famed Hunter Valley of New South Wales, 90 minutes north of Sydney, and only 40 minutes inland from Newcastle.
The largest centre in Australia’s oldest wine region, the area is unique in retaining its natural charm - one third of the area is listed an UNESCO World Heritage site – whilst continuing to experience substantial growth. By 2041, it is expected that Cessnock City’s population will have grown to 112,000 people.
A fabulous opportunity now exists for an experienced and innovative individual to lead one of New South Wales most famous and unique LGA’s through a period of growth and change.
About The Role
The role of General Manager supports councillors, staff and the community in developing and delivering a clear vision for a vibrant and sustainable Cessnock region.
Planned urban development is rapidly progressing across the region and whilst there is infrastructure across the city to support this growth, more will be needed. Council is committed to development that promotes sustainable and planned growth, whilst delivering programs to protect and enrich the natural environment, enhancing prosperity, sustainability, diversity and liveability for the growing population.
Functionally the role of General Manager exercises overall responsibility for the operations of Council. As such, the role supports the development and implementation of Council’s Strategic Plan, the development of policy, oversight of and financial management of the Council, together with communication and promotion of Council’s policies and procedures to the community which it serves.
About You
As a highly regarded leader of people, you will have a history of leading organisations and communities through periods of growth and change, building cultures that both you and the organisation are proud of and being firmly focused on outcomes. Further, you will be be skilled at driving local economic development at every opportunity and demonstrate a commitment for the Cessnock and the broader Hunter Valley region, its people and the future. An understanding and exposure to the challenges surrounding local government and financial sustainability is essential.
As would be expected of such a role, highly developed communication and advocacy skills are essential, as is the ability to develop effective partnerships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholder groups.
Cessnock is embarking on a journey of change and growth which the General Manager will play a pivotal role. Be a part of its success.
