Charters Towers - a living tribute to the history of Western Queensland.

Charters Towers Regional Council, located just an hour and half’s drive from Townsville, represents over 12,000 residents. Charters Towers is a welcoming community renowned for its exceptional educational facilities and rich heritage.  Strolling down its historic main street presents magnificent heritage buildings that tell the story of a proud past.

A unique opportunity now exists to join the Executive Leadership team as Executive Manager Infrastructure Services and help lead the growth of one of Queensland’s most ambitious Local Government Councils.

The Role

Reporting to the recently appointed Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Manager Infrastructure Services will lead a significant directorate delivering design, construction, maintenance and management services for capital works & assets, open spaces, civil works, saleyards oversight and waste and resource recovery across the region.

By working in partnership with the Chief Executive Officer and the Executive Leadership Team, you will play a key role providing inspiring leadership and stewardship, characterised by innovation, collaboration and service.

As a creative thinker, you will be comfortable generating alternatives, visualising new possibilities, challenging assumptions and opening yourself up to new information.

Some key priorities will include:
  • Lead the delivery of Councils capital works, operational maintenance and community recovery programs
  • Develop and implement Council’s Asset Management Framework across all asset classes
  • Lead the provision and enhancement of essential services to the community such as Water and Roads.
  • Work closely with the Executive Leadership Team, to ensure the directorate has the appropriate capability and capacity required to meet the service needs to the community.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of Councils short- and long-term strategic direction
About You

As a highly regarded leader of people, you will most likely bring with you significant exposure within the infrastructure/utilities arenas and have a track record of successful project delivery, leading teams through periods of change and growth and building cultures you are proud of.

As would be expected of such a high-profile role, advanced communication and advocacy skills are essential, as is the ability to develop effective partnerships across a diverse and broad reaching community.

Familiarity of relevant legislation within the Local Government context would be an advantage as is a knowledge and understanding of the broader changing social, political, and economic issues facing the Local, State and Federal government sectors. It is further expected the successful applicant will hold relevant tertiary qualifications in a relevant field.

This truly is a role which presents both professional opportunities and challenges, whilst offering a kaleidoscope of rewards.
