Snowy Valleys – Between the Mountains and the Plains
Situated on the western foothills of the snowy mountains between the ACT and the Murray River, the Snowy Valleys Council region offers a vibrant country lifestyle in a beautiful natural environment. The region boasts a resilient and robust economy and is host to the majority of Snowy Hydro power generation infrastructure, the Snowy 2.0 project and has one of the largest softwood plantations in the southern hemisphere.

The region is home to a diverse human resource base, a climate providing four distinct seasons a year and a high annual rainfall.  High quality facilities and services, together with a high standard of infrastructure additionally support a diverse business community.

The Chief Transition Officer (CTO) will contribute to the development of and manage the implementation of Council’s de-amalgamation road map and de-amalgamation implementation plan, with an overall aim to successfully create two new Council organisations.

The Role
This is a unique opportunity to help define the future of the Snowy Valleys Region.

This unique opportunity will suit a highly experienced Local Government Leader with a proven track record of delivering change . The core element of the role will involve leading the Transition Team and working closely with the Executive and Staff to align transition efforts with the de-amalgamation implementation plan.

About You
The Snowy Valleys region is embarking on a journey of change, which whilst presenting great opportunities brings with it associated challenges.

As a highly regarded leader of people, you will have a history of leading government organisations and communities through periods of change which will be essential in navigating implementation challenges and ensuring a smooth transition within adopted timeframes.

It is envisaged that key accountabilities will include developing an organisation change initiative and associated roadmap for de-amalgamation including championing Council’s adopted de-implementation management plan. Financially, the development of budgets and plans that support sound fiscal management and sustainability of the two new separate organisations will be critical.

As would be expected of such a role, highly developed communication and advocacy skills are essential, as is the ability to develop effective partnerships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholder groups.

Familiarity of relevant legislation within the Local Government context is preferable, as is knowledge and understanding of the changing social, political, and economic issues facing the local government sector.

The Snowy Valleys region is embarking on a journey of change and growth which the Chief Transition Officer will play a pivotal role.
