- Scanning Technician / Surveyor working in local government at the ‘City of Sydney’
- Unit: City Infrastructure and Traffic Operations
- Location: Sydney CBD (Town Hall)
- To commence ASAP, until mid Sep 2025, with possible extension
- Paying: $60 per hour + super
Role Purpose
Focussed on conducting cadastral surveys, engineering surveys and other survey related tasks to assist the City’s engineers, designers and civil contractors to support the planning stages of Councils capital works program.
To undertake and deliver surveys from field data collection, through to data processing and calculations, to final drafting and issuing to a professional standard. Using Topcon GT Series with FC5000 field controller and Magnet Field software, Magnet Office and Autodesk AEC (particularly AutoCAD Map 3d and Civil 3D)
Tasks
- Pre-field investigation of project sites for the identification of network control (horizontal, vertical and cadastral)
- Establishing and marking site control on MGA2020 coordinates and AHD via appropriate means (e.g. connection to existing control, GNSS etc.)
- Undertaking accurate field collection of topographic detail using a robotic total station, terrestrial laser scanner and/or other survey equipment as appropriate to site conditions
- Collection of sufficient cadastral data to enable the City’s POSI obligations to be met (in collaboration with the City’s Registered Surveyors)
- Uploading, downloading and managing survey data transfer between field and office equipment
- Reducing and calculating field data using CAD software (Magnet, AutoCAD etc.) to prepare high quality detail survey and DTM/TIN deliverables
- Final drafting and plan release
Stakeholders
Your key internal relationships would be with the Principal Surveyor (your direct manager, to report on progress/issues/risks), the Technical Services Team (regarding key projects and deliverables), internal staff across Program Delivery (providing updates on surveys related to capital works projects).
External stakeholders may include local residents, Sydney Water, Ausgrid, Telco’s, Transport for NSW, Dept of Planning (to investigate issues and prepare responses).
Required Experience
- Certificate III or higher in Surveying, Geomatic Engineering or a related field.
- Experience in collection and processing of topographic/detail surveys.
- Experience of surveying and using CAD software (such as Magnet, 12D AutoCAD).
- Exposure to using a laser scanner.
- Ability to communicate effectively to internal and external. stakeholders, orally and in a broad variety of written professional and technical formats.
- Current Class C driver licence.
