Capstone are recruiting a 'Project Manager – Capital Works' at Metropolitan Memorial Parks.
   
Overview
  • Permanent, Full-time position, working 38 hrs per week
  • Hybrid working arrangement: from Macquarie Park Cemetery & Crematorium 3-4 days/wk, visiting other sites including French’s Forest, Field of Mars, Gore Hill, Sandgate, Rookwood, Sutherland, and Matraville (as required), with the ability to work from home around 1 day/wk.
  • Annual Salary between $135,000 - $150,000 + super
  • Access to sick leave, annual leave and public holiday pay
  • Note: this position does not come with a vehicle or vehicle allowance
   
The Organisation
Metropolitan Memorial Parks (MMP) is a cemeteries and crematoria operator for the NSW Government, formed from the amalgamation of 3 former entities in July 2023. Encompassing 400 hectares of Crown Land, MMP oversee the management of 8 Memorial Parks across Sydney and the Hunter region. These parks serve as places of reflection, offering support for people to grieve, celebrate life and remember their loved ones. Currently, MMP employs around 280 staff, with a substantial annual turnover of $85m.
   
The Section
The ‘Strategic Planning, Infrastructure & Assets’ section manages the design, construction and maintenance of physical assets of MMP, this includes facilities and infrastructure management and project management of capital works. The section is responsible for ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery of burial stock and cemetery infrastructure (including buildings, roads, master planning, new cemeteries) to provide functional and aesthetically attractive cemetery sites that meet community needs.
  
Position Purpose
The ‘Project Manager Capital Works’ will effectively manage the development and delivery of a portfolio of capital works at MMP cemetery sites to ensure they are delivered within time, cost, safety, environmental and quality expectations. This includes management of issues, risks and project change requests. You will be working as part of a team of in-house Project Managers (client side) and working with external consultants and contractors.
  
Projects include ash and burial section developments, road repairs, office fit-outs, heritage building refurbishments, cremator upgrades and the construction or refurbishment of amenity buildings. The projects can vary from $150k - $4m in value.
  
Key accountabilities include:
  • Manage a portfolio of Capital Works projects with varying levels of complexity, managing interdependencies across projects, identifying, and escalating critical issues, and tracking key project milestones and performance measures.
  • Manage and oversee all aspects of project life cycle including developing project plans, identifying and coordinating resources, managing budgets, contractors and suppliers and meeting reporting requirements to ensure project outcomes are achieved on time, on budget, in scope and to quality standards.
  • Undertake procurement and selection processes for contractors as required.
  • Manage contracts including evaluation of progress claims, variation claims, extension of time claims, and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure resources, contractors, suppliers and consultants are engaged and managed appropriately this includes undertaking site inspections to ensure project objectives and quality standards are achieved and directing the contractor to undertake remedial action where necessary.
  • Provide advice and information on emerging project issues and risks.
  • Prepare project documentation ensuring all materials and project plans are up-to-date.
  • Undertake contractor site inductions and WHS audits throughout the project duration.
   
About You
To be considered, you MUST have:
  • Client-side project management experience including coordinating and monitoring contractors/sub-contractors and consultants to achieve project outcomes
  • Formal qualifications in Project Management (ideally a Cert IV or Diploma)
  • Experience in delivering capital works projects in scope, on budget, on time and to required quality standards
  • Exposure to managing projects across buildings and/or civil assets
  • Experience managing procurement processes to engage new consultants/contractors.
  • A current unrestricted Driver’s License and Construction White Card
  • Previous government experience would be beneficial
