High profile property company with a growing portfolio of retail assets.

The Role

The Retail Property Accountant will oversee the financial operations of a portfolio of retail assets, with a primary focus on owner-level reporting, budgeting, tenant financials, and outgoings management.  This includes:
  • Manage end-to-end property accounting functions for retail tenancies
  • Prepare monthly owner reports: P&L, cash flows, tenant ledgers, aged receivables, and variance commentary
  • Process accruals, journals, and reconciliations (bank, GL, outgoings)
  • Ensure accurate and timely ERP entries for all retail-related transactions 
  • Prepare annual budgets and quarterly reforecasts in collaboration with Asset Management 
  • Lead outgoings estimates and reconciliations, including full audit trail for recovery 
  • Coordinate annual Retail Outgoings Audit (per Retail Leases Act) 
  • Support outgoings statements and tenant variance explanations 
  • Oversee rent invoicing, turnover rent calculations, escalation processing, and tenant recharges 
  • Monitor arrears and follow through on resolution/escalation with Centre Management 
  • Maintain tenant account integrity including bank guarantees and security registers 
  • Maintain and improve financial reporting tools (MYOB, Excel, MRI/MRX) 
  • Liaise with software providers (e.g. MRI, PMX) to resolve data/process issues 
  • Ensure adherence to lease terms and Retail Leases Act as they relate to financials 
  • Coordinate financial audit deliverables (external and internal) 
  • Maintain up-to-date insurance, lease, and tenancy schedules with financial relevance
The Person
  • 3-5 years experience in a Retail Property Accounting or Retail Finance role
  • Proven experience within a reputable retail property management firm 
  • Advanced skills in MYOB and Excel; exposure to MRI, PMX, Yardi, or equivalent platforms
  • Strong understanding of Retail Leases Act, retail-specific recoveries, and retail audit processes
  • Demonstrated ability to manage end-to-end financial ownership of retail centres
  • Experience working within or supporting system transformation or ERP implementations
