Assignment Overview
  • Organisation: Cancer Australia (a federal government entity)
  • Section: Collaboration and Supportive Care, Branch: Partnerships and Cancer Equity
  • Based: Sydney CBD (next to Central Station), with the ability to work from home 2 days p/wk
  • Working full-time hours (preferred), part-time will be considered
  • Temp contract: ASAP for initially 3 months, with potential extension
  • APS 6 level: paying $60-70 per hour + super
  • Reporting into the: Assistant Director
 
Cancer Australia is the Australian Government's national cancer control agency, which aims to reduce the impact of all cancers and improve outcomes and experiences for all people affected by cancer. Working collaboratively across the entire cancer control system with Australians affected by cancer, health professionals, researchers, policy makers and service providers. The agency is a respected thought leader in the sector and is uniquely positioned to provide robust, world-leading advice to the Australian Government on cancer policy priorities.
 
The Scheme
The Priority-driven Collaborative Cancer Research Scheme (PdCCRS) is an annual national research project grants scheme that funds cancer research in identified priority areas to help reduce the impact of cancer in the community and improve outcomes for people affected by cancer. This scheme is managed by Cancer Australia, and the agency collaborates with the National Health and Medical Research Council to facilitate registration and initial assessment of grant applications and endorse grants funded through this scheme in recognition of their scientific merit. In 2023, Cancer Australia and their Funding Partners invested $5.78mn to fund the successful grant applications for 15 new cancer research projects.
 
The Role
As the Senior Program Officer, you will work within the Collaboration and Supportive Care Section within the Partnerships and Cancer Equity Branch. Work will involve the ongoing management of the PdCCRS grants, including assessment of project reports, correspondence with grant recipients, research institutions and funding partners, as well as ongoing project management and reporting.
 
Key Duties
  • Analyse and assess project reporting against program guidelines and procedural documentation
  • Make decisions using good judgement, expertise, and knowledge under limited guidance
  • Provide input to briefs, correspondence, and reports
  • Identify project risks and mitigation strategies, and work collaboratively to resolve complex issues and find solutions
  • Ensure appropriate records are maintained in accordance with the record keeping standards and procedures
 
Criteria
  • Australian citizenship is required.
  • Previous experience in grants management or grants assessment is required.
  • Previous project reporting and project administration experience is required.
  • Experience in health research or cancer research is highly desirable.
