We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Project Manager to lead a critical Smart Meter Data program within a major player in the Utilities sector.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end delivery of a high-visibility project focused on meter data systems, processes and governance.
The role will involve extensive stakeholder engagement, vendor management, and cross-functional coordination across technical and operational teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of a multi-year Meter Data project, aligning with strategic goals, compliance requirements, and customer outcomes
- Drive all phases of the project lifecycle, from business case development, planning, and design through to delivery and benefits realisation
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders including IT, data, operations, regulatory, and field services teams
- Manage and coordinate vendor engagements, ensuring clear deliverables, governance, and performance oversight
- Oversee project scope, timelines, budgets ($ multi-million), and resource planning to ensure successful delivery
- Mitigate risks and resolve issues, ensuring compliance with market and regulatory obligations (AEMO, CDR, VDO, etc.)
- Support effective reporting to executive leadership, PMO, and steering committees
- 8–10+ years of experience delivering complex projects in the Utilities, Energy, or Infrastructure sectors
- Ability to drive Regulatory Rule Change
- Strong understanding of Smart Meters, metering systems, metering data flows, MDMS, NEM market rules, or related regulatory requirements
- Proven ability to build business cases, engage C-level stakeholders, and translate strategy into delivery
- Excellent experience working in a matrixed environment with cross-functional teams and external vendors
- Familiarity with Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies
- Ability to work under pressure, with multiple priorities in a regulated environment
- Strong communication, negotiation, and leadership skills
- Experience working with AEMO, AMI, or Metering Service Providers
- Knowledge of energy retail, transmission or distribution businesses
