High profile property company with an impressive pipeline of projects including residential development, retail asset management and Build to Rent.
The Development Accountant will play a key role in supporting the financial management of active property development projects. This role is responsible for accurate project accounting, reconciliation processes, and the financial administration of settlements and compliance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform end-to-end accounting functions across the project lifecycle (acquisition through to settlement).
- Maintain detailed cost tracking, project reconciliations, and budget variance analysis.
- Record and reconcile settlements in the general ledger, including revenue recognition and cost of goods sold.
- Conduct monthly bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare and lodge BAS and support all other ATO/statutory reporting requirements.
- Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, including project-specific cash flow, P&L, and budget reporting.
- Maintain audit-ready records of invoices, contracts, and project-related financial data.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure accuracy of financial data and compliance with internal controls.
- Support external audit, tax, and compliance processes.
- Identify opportunities for system and process improvements across the finance function.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in accounting, ideally within property development or a project accounting environment.
- Solid understanding of the development lifecycle (feasibility, construction, completion, settlement).
- Proven experience with settlement bookings and related GL entries.
- Competent in preparing BAS and performing reconciliations (bank, GL, balance sheet).
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, modelling).
- ERP experience required (e.g. NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage Intacct, etc).
- High level of accuracy, organisational ability, and time management.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- CPA/CA qualification or studying towards.
