Company Overview
Our client is a leading consulting engineering firm based in Melbourne, renowned for delivering practical and innovative civil and structural solutions across a diverse portfolio of building projects. With a team-oriented approach and a reputation for technical excellence, our client partners with architects, developers, and builders to deliver resilient, efficient designs that shape the urban landscape. Their commitment to quality, adaptability, and collaboration has established them as a trusted advisor in the built environment, consistently delivering outcomes that exceed expectations and set new standards in engineering practice.

Responsibilities
In this contract role, you will play a pivotal part in the design and delivery of stormwater systems—including both gravity and pumped solutions—across a wide range of building projects. Your core duties will include:
  • Designing stormwater drainage systems compliant with Australian standards and local council guidelines, ensuring effective management of runoff, flood risk reduction, and environmental protection.
  • Managing the end-to-end design process for multiple concurrent projects, from initial assessment through to final documentation and issue.
  • Liaising with local councils and regulatory authorities to secure timely approvals, addressing technical queries, and ensuring all designs meet compliance requirements.
  • Providing technical oversight and quality assurance on all civil design outputs, including detailed calculations, drawings, and specifications.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams—including architects, builders, and fellow engineers—to deliver integrated solutions that balance functionality, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Engaging with stakeholders to communicate design intent, resolve issues, and drive projects to successful completion, often under tight deadlines and shifting priorities.
Company Culture
Our client fosters a progressive, inclusive, and supportive work environment where collaboration and innovation are at the heart of everything they do. Team members are encouraged to share ideas, challenge the status quo, and pursue technical excellence in every project. The culture is built on mutual respect, open communication, and a shared commitment to continuous learning and professional growth. Regular team-building events and cross-office collaboration underpin a sense of belonging and camaraderie, making it a place where engineers can thrive and contribute meaningfully to the built environment.
Skills Required

Technical Skills:
  • Demonstrated experience in stormwater system design (including pumped solutions) for building projects, with a strong grasp of Australian standards (such as AS/NZS 3500.3 and ARR) and local council requirements.
  • Proficiency in civil engineering design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, DRAINS, MUSIC), and the ability to produce detailed documentation for submission and approval.
  • Solid understanding of hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, site grading, and integration of water-sensitive urban design principles.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring all deliverables meet quality, safety, and regulatory benchmarks.
Soft Skills:
  • Strong project management abilities, including planning, prioritisation, and resource allocation in a fast-paced, multi-project environment.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to liaise confidently with councils, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Adaptability and problem-solving mindset, with a focus on delivering practical, buildable solutions under tight deadlines.
  • High attention to detail, organisational skills, and a proactive approach to overcoming challenges and driving projects forward.
Please note: Only candidates with full Australian working rights can be considered for this position.
